Emotional AI & EDI Glossary
Key terms in Emotional AI, Emotional Decision Intelligence and the FACS standard — defined by Cavefish.
Action Unit (AU)
A discrete facial muscle movement as defined by the Facial Action Coding System (FACS). EchoDepth analyses 44 facial Action Units to measure emotional states.
Credibility Signal
An EchoDepth output measuring the degree to which an audience perceives a communicator as believable and trustworthy, independent of content quality.
Decision Intelligence
The discipline of improving decision quality through better data and analytical frameworks. Cavefish adds the emotional signal layer to produce Emotional Decision Intelligence.
Emotional AI
Technology that detects, measures and interprets human emotional states from facial expressions, vocal patterns and behavioural indicators.
Emotional Congruence
The alignment between what a person says and their emotional state as measured by facial Action Unit analysis. Low congruence is a signal of inauthenticity or stress.
Emotional Decision Intelligence (EDI)
The ability to measure and predict how people will emotionally respond to decisions, communications and interactions before those decisions are executed. The category defined and operationalised by Cavefish.
Emotional Risk
The probability that unmeasured human emotional response will undermine a decision, communication or interaction before corrective action is possible.
Emotional Risk Rating
EchoDepth's quantified output summarising the probability and magnitude of emotional risk in a specific decision, communication or interaction.
FACS (Facial Action Coding System)
The gold-standard framework for measuring facial muscle movements, developed by Paul Ekman and Wallace Friesen. EchoDepth implements 44 Action Units under the FACS standard.
Investor Confidence Score
EchoDepth's quantified measure of investor emotional conviction, derived from facial Action Unit analysis during communications and interaction sessions.
Resistance Indicator
An EchoDepth output measuring emotional resistance signals in an audience — the precursor to visible behavioural resistance to decisions or change.
Trust Score
EchoDepth's quantified measure of audience trust signal strength in response to a communication, interaction or decision.
VAD Model
Valence-Arousal-Dominance — the three-dimensional emotional state model used by EchoDepth to provide significantly more granular emotional state mapping than binary positive/negative classification.
